Taking a Pause

I've taken an impromptu break from blogging. We're enjoying the holidays and being with family. Another reason is I have a BUNCH of crafts/presents to finish and that's taken all of my extra time. Be prepared to be bombarded with posts after Christmas (or when I give people their gifts). I don't want to spoil any surprises by posting early. :)

Merry Christmas!!!!

Jumbo Cards

My mom's friend asked me to make three cards for the owners of the clinic she works for. But she had requirements. They needed to be 8.5x11 in size, not 'cutesy', and Christian-inspired.

I glued the top inch of two sheets of cardstock together and scored to make the cards as big as possible.

It took a little bit to find ideas that weren't cutesy but I loved how they turned out.

Black Friday Haul

Me, Carver, Mom and Charlie all woke up at 4:00am, loaded up, got coffee from our lovely Kolette (Kolettey's Koffee) who opened just for us :), and headed down to Yakima.

Stop #1: WalMart
I have a very strong dislike for this store but when they're the only ones that carry Cricut Lite cartridges, what's a girl to do? They only had the 7 new lite cartridges which kinda bummed me but I got the Jolly Holiday cartridge and already have a project in mind for it. I also got two movies for $1.96 a piece! Mom found a Mickey Mouse movie that will go in Carver's stocking.

Stop #2: Target
I LOVE this store!!!! But they lines were ridiculous! They wound from the registers to electronics, back down to seasonal, then along the back wall to sporting goods, up that aisle to the main back aisle back to seasonal, and then back towards electronics. But I have to hand it to the employees. They had us clipping along pretty fast. Here's what I got:

* Queen size air mattress for Jena - $12
* Two flannel plaid shirts for Carver - $5/ea
* 2 sets - 2pk Sleepers for Carver - $12/ea ($6/sleeper)
* 5 movies - $3.99-$5.99/ea
* Flannel plaid shirt for me - $7.50

The only things I wasn't able to get were the scarves ($5/ea) and a new hair straightener ($14) but we might go back today.

Stop #3: Starbucks
Needed another coffee and Carver needed some breakfast. He loves their oatmeal. :)

Stop #4: Michaels
I got 3 photo boxes. They were 3 for $5 when they're regularly $4.50/ea. Score! I also got two cricut cartridges - Everyday Paper Dolls for $28 and Simply Charmed for $37. I needed a bigger acrylic block for stamping so I got that too. I want to go there again today if we go because all of their Disney cartridges are $25 today.

Stop #5: The Childrens Place
I wanted to see if they had anymore hats (no such luck). I got three thermal shirts ($4.90/ea), a sweatshirt ($7) and matching half zip sweaters for Carver and Tyler for $13/ea. That was probably the worst place out of everywhere we went. It was FREEZING in there and they only had two registers going so the line was barely moving.

Stop #6: Borders
Mom wanted a book. I found Curious George 2 for $5 and a Mickey Mouse cd for $6 after I used my 40% off coupon

Stop #7: Fred Meyer in Ellensburg
We got there just as the sale was ending but mom got in line real quick so she got some socks at half off. Chris was already there when we got there and he got a bunch of tools for half off! :)

What deals did you get???

Clearing the Clutter Challenge #4

OOPS!!!!! I totally forgot to post this morning. Maybe it was because we (me, Carver, mom and Charlie) woke up at 4:00 am to go shopping. We had a BLAST and I got almost everything on my list!

I don't have any pictures this week for my challenge. Let me explain... Our power went out on Monday after a big storm and just came back sometime today (we're out of town). So since the power was out you'd think that I'd have a lot of time to craft since all my distractions were taken away. Wrong. I wanted to craft... but I wanted to use my cricut. So instead, I cleared a bunch of stuff off my desk and put it in it's home. It wasn't anything that was worth taking a picture of. It was stuff like...
  • Putting new ribbon in my ribbon holder
  • Putting all the things I'm going to need for a couple projects into bins so that it's all in one place
  • Putting away the embossing folders I got awhile ago from Oh My Crafts (see this post)
  • Since I couldn't post the pictures from the baby shower and Sarah's welcome home card, I wrote down all the details so I could post from my Mom's house.
  • Coupons tend to take up residence on the corner of my desk until I can get them into my coupon organizer so I caught up on that (that hadn't been done in forever!!)
I think that's it. I had the great idea to glue some ribbon to the front of a shelf in the laundry room since I couldn't use my cricut... until I remembered that you have to plug a hot glue gun in. DUH! It was very frustrating. Especially when you've got your creative juices going. haha I'll definitely be crafting when we get home on Sunday.

I'm pretty sure that Lorie forgot, like me. But if YOU remembered, leave a link in a comment. We'd love to see what you've cleared off your desk. :)

Welcome Home!

My brother's girlfriend has been in Africa on a mission for the last 3 months and just came home. A bunch of people gave cards to put all over her room for when she came home. Here's the card I made. I found the directions on THIS post by Creations by Christie. It's made from one 12x12 sheet of paper and this one holds 3 tags.

Tag #1 - from me!

Tag #2 - From Carver. He drew a picture on the back (the back is white)

Tag #3 - from Chris. This page didn't have a design so I put rhinestones and stickles on some of the dots.

12x12 Paper - Target dollar section
Ribbon - JoAnns
Pink/Blue/Purple paper - scraps
Flowers - Accent Essentials at 2.5, 2 and 1.5"
Baby Blue stickles
iRock

Another Baby Shower

We had another baby shower at church and I volunteered to do the shopping again. This time I had my sister-in-law, Kim, with me so it was a little easier. I was able to get a carseat for one of the ladies and a Pack 'n' Play for the other. I would've gotten a carseat for the second lady but they didn't have it in stock at the Babies R Us I went to and it wasn't at the other one that's close. Bummer. :(

Here's the cards I made for them. I found the directions from THIS site.

Paper Recipe:
White: Reflections
Pink: Bazzill 'Chablis'
Flower & Argyle: Both from Target dollar section
Navy: ANW Crestwood 'Deep Sea'
Boy Circles: Cloud 9 Design 'Bouncing Baby Boy'
Green: Core'dinations 'Evergreen'

Flower: Accent Essentials at 3.5" (?not positive)
i-Rock
Embossing Folders: Baby and Swiss Dots

Clearing the Clutter Challenge #3

Today is the Clearing the Clutter challenge!!! Lorie's out of town so it's just me posting this week. I only have a small project this time since we were gone for about a week. I found this letter coat hanger in the dollar section at Michaels back in May/June so I got one for Carver and an R for my friend's daughter. And Carver's has been sitting ever since. :( This is why I LOVE this challenge!

I used Rhonna Farrer paper (never heard of that brand but I got it at Michaels, I think) and mod podged it to the coat hanger. After it was dry I took my Tim Holtz sanding block and distressed the edges a little.

What have you done to clear the clutter? As always, feel free to post a link in a comment to any projects you've created. :)

Have a great weekend everyone!

Never Ending Card

Charlie if you're reading this... STOP!!!

I saw this over HERE at Creations By Christie and instantly had to try it out. I needed to make a birthday card for Charlie anyways so it worked out perfectly. :)

The front of the card. I used all DCWV papers on every fold.

Fold #2; Tim Holtz stamp ('Journey' set)

Fold #3

Fold #4; Tim Holtz stamp ('Journey' set)

Then it begins again at the first fold. If you turn it over, it has a whole new design. It turned out pretty awesome if you ask me. :) I'm going to hide a gift card in one of the folds.

Halloween 2010

I made a trick-or-treating bucket for Carver to put all his candy in. It was super fun and I love how it turned out. :) The stickers were from Michaels and the bucket was from Artco Crafts in Tacoma.

The lid (Cuttin' Up)

'Halloween' (Designers Calendar)

Close up of the TINY spider (Designers Calendar 1")

Close up of the tombstone (Wild Card 5.5")

Close up of the spider (Stretch your Imagination, don't remember size)

Hop on over to my family blog, The Garland Fam, if you want to see pictures of Carver dressed up as a Sock Monkey!

Clearing the Clutter Challenge #2

First off, I'd like to apologize for not posting in TWO WEEKS!!! WOW! We've been caught up in sick babies (flu -- cold -- then fever yesterday and rash today). And to add to that, work has been pretty busy. This all means, no time for Tana to craft. :*(
--------

This is week 2 of our Clearing the Clutter Challenge. You can go to THIS post to find out all the details about it. Since I haven't had much time to craft I didn't get any 'big' projects off my desk. I did get a couple small ones done though. So I got something accomplished, right???

Project #1 - Halloween Cards
I've been procrastinating as much as I could on these. I don't even know why I send them out. The only reason why I like Halloween is dressing Carver up and candy corn. But when Carver was born, I sent out Halloween cards to all the babies that were born around the same time as him. And I expanded it this year to family.

Recipe:
Paper -- Black -Recollections; Orange - Bazzill 'Orange Slice'; Pumpkins (not pictured) - KI Memories 'Pumpkin Party'; Halloween words - DCWV Halloween
Designers Calendar -- Halloween 2", Spider 2.5"

Project #2 - Carver's Potties

We bought the green potty for Carver a few months ago and finally decided to spend the $4 to get a second one to keep at my mom's house. We bought them from Ikea and they only had the two colors. :( I kinda wanted the white one they had on their website.

Recipe:
Monkey --> Create a Critter 3"
Carver --> Cuttin' Up 1.5"
White vinyl, Ikea potty

That's all I got finished but I have a couple that I was working on but need some supplies to finish. You'll get to see those next time. :)

As always, please feel free to play along. Just add a link in your comment. If we get enough we'll add a Mr. Linky.

Now hop on over to Lorie's blog and see what she's cleared off her desk.

An Oh My Crafts! Haul

I scored big time at Oh My Crafts! and I had to share with you. :) I originally ordered 9 sets of embossing folders and a refill for my Tim Holtz sanding block. They ended up refunding me for two of the embossing folders because they were out of stock. And the drumroll for the total................ $13.28 SHIPPED!!! (that's after the $3 refund). How awesome is that?!?!

These are cut and emboss folders. RIP and Beware.
